چکیده

Dynamic spatial analysis addresses computational aspects of space-time processing. This paper describes the development of a spatial analysis tool and modelling framework that together offer a solution for simulating landscape processes. A better approach to integrating landscape spatial analysis with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is advocated in this paper. Enhancements include special spatial operators and map algebra language constructs to handle dispersal and advective flows over landscape surfaces. These functional components to landscape modelling are developed in a modular way and are linked together in a modelling framework that performs dynamic simulation. The concepts and modelling frameworks are demonstrated using a hydrological modelling example. The approach provides a modelling environment for scientists and land resource managers to write and to visualize spatial process models with ease.

A Modelling Framework Incorporating a Map Algebra Programming Language

The paper presents a modelling framework to integrate dynamic analysis and spatial analysis, and to apply this to a hydrological application. The dynamic analysis runs a simulation of a set of process modules. Modules for spatial analysis functionality are implemented in software libraries, or components. Currently we support components for a map algebra language called MapScript, and for sprea...

Incorporating Level Set Methods in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for Land-Surface Process Modeling

Land-surface processes include a broad class of models that operate at a landscape scale. Current modelling approaches tend to be specialised towards one type of process, yet it is the interaction of processes that is increasing seen as important to obtain a more integrated approach to land management. This paper presents a technique and a tool that may be applied generically to landscape proce...

Visual Map Algebra: A Direct-Manipulation User Interface for GIS

Geographic Information Systems (GISs) store, analyze, and present spatial data and information about geographic space and geographic phenomena. Virtually all aspects of a GIS have inherent spatial, graphical, and visual characteristics. While the database and analytical aspects of GIS have enjoyed considerable advancement in recent areas, a user’s access to and interaction with spatial informat...

An algebra for multicriteria spatial modeling

The objective of this paper is to propose a new algebra, called decision map algebra (DMA), especially devoted to multicriteria spatial modeling. DMA is a generic and context-independent modeling language inspired from map algebra and other similar languages. It supports the conventional geometric objects and cartographic maps and adds a rich set of new operands representing different spatial m...

Thematic Map Modeling

We study here how to provide the designer of geographic databases with a database query language extensible and customizable. The model presented here is a rst step toward a high level spatial query language adapted to the manipulation of thematic maps. For this, we take as an example a toy application on thematic maps, and show by using a complex objects algebra that application dependent geom...
